Members of the LGBTQ Community React to the Same-sex Couple Suicide in Gujarat

This pride month, the LGBTQ community in India has a lot to celebrate. There are pride parades being organised in small towns, discussions about homosexuality are happening more openly on social media and public platforms. The constant mushrooming of support groups for LGBTQ community members points to the fact that people are more willing to talk about orientation, gender, and sexuality, than they were before. However, on 11 June 2018, the suicide of a same-sex couple in Gujarat served as a cruel reminder, not just to the community but to India in general, that we are far from being inclusive as a society. We are still unable to provide safe space for same-sex couples and unfortunately, there are families and societies which are still driving them to take such extreme step. In this video, few members of the community weigh in on the tragic suicide that happened in Gujarat and discuss ways to move forward to create a more inclusive society.
